Meaning
Neurological dissociation occurs when the brain ignores physiological indicators of exhaustion to maintain a high level of output. Neural uncoupling allows a founder to continue operating at high intensity despite physical indicators of fatigue that would normally trigger a stop response. It functions as a temporary override of the standard feedback loops that govern human effort.
Sensory Dissociation
Perception of the environment becomes purely intellectual as the internal data from the nervous system is ignored. Through neural uncoupling, the individual can work through severe discomfort without a conscious awareness of the damage being done to their system. The mind operates as if it were a separate entity from the body it inhabits.
Signal Bypass
Achievement of this state often involves a combination of extreme focus and the suppression of the interoceptive pathways that carry information about the internal state. While neural uncoupling is active, a person might fail to notice hunger, thirst, sleep deprivation or the onset of illness until the physical symptoms become impossible to ignore. This disconnect enables the completion of tasks during a crisis but removes the safety governor that prevents burnout.
Once the override ends, the founder often experiences a sudden surge of fatigue as the backlogged signals are finally processed. Recovery time is usually proportional to the duration of the uncoupled state.
Response Latency
Reactions to external stimuli become slower and more mechanical over time as neural uncoupling becomes the standard operating mode. The brain eventually loses the ability to distinguish between a minor inconvenience and a major threat.
