This decline is a result of the brain consuming its available glucose and neurochemical supplies.

Restoring the ability to lead requires a complete break from decision making and high stakes environments. Executive depletion cannot be cured by more caffeine or a short break. It requires several hours of sleep or a full day of low intensity activity to allow the brain to reset.
If the person tries to push through this state, they risk making errors that could damage the company’s long term prospects. This requirement for rest is a non negotiable biological limit. Fatigue forces a pause.
